About

The On Cloudmonster is the Swiss brand's first true max cushion road shoe. On was incorporated in January 2010 by Olivier Bernhard, a former Swiss Ironman champion, with David Allemann and Caspar Coppetti. Its CloudTec cushioning began with Bernhard experimenting with a garden hose, and Nike turned down the prototype he showed while he was still a Nike athlete. The Cloudmonster launched on 31 March 2022 with a far larger sole than anything On had made before. Under the foot sit oversized CloudTec pods on the softest Helion foam On had used to that point, with a 30 mm heel, a 26 mm forefoot and a 4 mm drop, at 9.7 oz for a US men's 8.5 and a launch price of 170 US dollars. Reviewers felt the pods compress and release through every stride and placed the shoe in daily training and long runs rather than speed work. The fit runs narrow with a shallow toe box, so testers suggested going up half a size if you sit between sizes. The Cloudmonster 3 of 2026 moved to triple layer CloudTec and a more aggressive rocker.
