The shoe was developed as Asics' premium stability running model, built around the brand's GEL cushioning technology for impact absorption and support for overpronators requiring motion control. Over more than 30 iterations, the silhouette evolved significantly in both technology and form. By the Kayano 14, which Asics used as the foundation for the 2023 Gel-Kayano Legacy lifestyle model, the shoe had developed a complex multi-layer construction that translated naturally into the trend of technical running shoes crossing into streetwear.
