The Nike Pegasus line has maintained a presence in Nike's running lineup since 1984, a lineage confirmed by the Pegasus 31 arriving in 2015 carrying a 31-year heritage reference. Designed as a cushioned road running shoe, the Pegasus is built around Nike's Zoom Air technology, which uses pressurised air units to deliver lightweight and responsive cushioning for heel-strike and midfoot runners. Later iterations added Flywire cables at the midfoot for improved lockdown and breathability, while a crash rail outsole was incorporated to create smooth heel-to-toe transitions. The shoe runs with a 10mm heel-to-toe drop, positioning it for everyday training and long-distance running. Successive numbered editions have maintained the core Zoom Air cushioning framework while updating materials and construction annually, with the Pegasus 30 priced at $100 in 2016 and the Pegasus 38 at $120 in 2021. The Nike Pegasus has served as the brand's most consistent entry-level performance running offering across four consecutive decades of uninterrupted production.
