About
The Nike Air Max 720 launched February 1, 2019 as a lifestyle sneaker retailing at $180. It introduced Nike's tallest Air unit to date at 38mm, surpassing the Air Max 270's 32mm unit. The "720" name refers to the Air unit being visible across a full 360 degrees both horizontally and vertically around the sole. Design was led by Dylan Raasch, Senior Creative Director for Air Max, with footwear design by Jesi Small, while Kathy Gomez, Nike's VP of Innovation, oversaw the project. Launch colorways — Northern Lights Day, Northern Lights Night, Sunrise, Sunset, Desert, Total Eclipse, and Sea Forest — drew on natural phenomena like the Northern Lights and sunsets. Nike marketed it under the line "More air, more pop," describing it as "uniquely engineered for steps rather than strides." The Air unit is made from over 75% recycled manufacturing waste. The design also drew inspiration from the 1995, 1997, and 1999 Air Max models.
