The Nike Air Max 270 was released on February 1, 2018. The name references the 270 degrees of visibility in the Air unit around the shoe. At the time of its launch, the Air unit was the tallest Nike had ever released, measuring 32 millimetres. The design drew inspiration from two earlier models in Nike's archive: the Air Max 93 and the Air Max 180. Significantly, the Air Max 270 was the first shoe in the Air Max line explicitly marketed for non-running purposes, marking a deliberate shift in positioning from performance footwear toward lifestyle and everyday wear. This reflected Nike's recognition of the Air Max silhouette's cultural significance beyond athletic performance. The 270 became one of Nike's most commercially successful lifestyle launches of the 2010s and helped establish the tall, visible Air heel unit as a defining aesthetic for Nike's lifestyle category.
