About
Jordan Brand unveiled the Spiz'ike in October 2006 to honour its longstanding relationship with filmmaker Spike Lee, whose Mars Blackmon character from the 1986 film She's Gotta Have It became a pitchman in Nike's Air Jordan commercials. The name fuses "Spike" and "Mike". The shoe is a hybrid of the Air Jordans tied to those ads: the midsole, outsole and elephant print of the Air Jordan III, the wing strap of the Air Jordan IV, the upper profile, mesh panels and lace locks of the Air Jordan V, the tongue of the Air Jordan VI, and the laser-etched print of the Air Jordan XX on the sockliner. The first release on 21 October 2006 was limited to 4,032 pairs, each individually numbered on its hang tag, with proceeds going to a new film institute at Morehouse College; hand tags autographed by Lee were randomly seeded among pairs. The debut "Kings County" colourway nodded to Lee's Brooklyn roots, and a white, varsity red, cement grey and classic green "OG" pair followed. Retros in 2014 and 2017 retailed at $175, and a Spizike Low arrived in 2024.
