About

The Air Jordan 7 released in 1992, designed by Tinker Hatfield, as confirmed by Sneaker Bar Detroit's coverage of Hatfield's original Olympic sketches. The shoe debuted during the 1992 Barcelona Games when Michael Jordan won his second gold medal as part of the US Men's Basketball Team — the "Dream Team." Several signature elements from previous Jordan models were intentionally removed. The visible Nike Air branding was eliminated for the first time across the Jordan line, and translucent soles were dropped. In their place, Hatfield added a neoprene Huarache bootie for ankle support. A geometric pattern sourced from an Afropop Worldwide radio program poster appears on the tongue and sole unit. Michael Jordan selected a white-based design from two versions Hatfield created; the alternate high-contrast sketch remained archived until its 2016 "Tinker Alternate" release. The Olympic colourway featured patriotic red, white, and blue across three of the five original options. The shoe was re-released starting with its 10-year anniversary in 2002.
