Virat Kohli's one8 Seam XVIII Sells Out in Minutes: India's Sneaker Launch of 2026

On June 21, 2026, one8 held its Global Premiere at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi — and the Seam XVIII Signature, priced at exactly ₹9,230 to match Kohli's Test run tally, had already sold out days earlier. India's homegrown sneaker moment is here.

The pre-bookings for the one8 Seam XVIII Signature sold out in minutes on June 5, 2026. By the time Virat Kohli stepped on stage at Yashobhoomi in Dwarka, New Delhi on June 21 for the brand's Global Premiere, buyers had traveled from Lucknow, Goa, Chennai, Jammu, and Indore just to be in the room. The shoe they came for is priced at ₹9,230. That price is not a marketing gimmick. It is Kohli's exact Test run tally at the moment of launch.

India has been building toward this for years. The sneaker resale market matured, collector culture grew roots in Mumbai and Bangalore, and global brands kept raising prices while Indian customs kept making the math worse. One8's launch is not just a celebrity shoe drop. It is a test of whether India can build a premium performance footwear brand that competes on its own terms.

From Puma Sub-Brand to Independent Force

One8 started in 2017 as a Puma India collaboration, a lifestyle sub-brand built around Kohli's image. It served its purpose: solid quality, accessible prices, strong brand association. But it never fully escaped the gravity of its parent company. Then Abhishek Ganguly, who had built Puma India into the country's largest sportswear brand over fifteen years, left to found Agilitas Sports. He brought the one8 partnership with him. The mandate changed entirely.

The Seam XVIII is the first product under the independent one8 banner. It was designed around cricket, which is not an obvious choice for a lifestyle sneaker. The upper carries stitching patterns that directly reference the seam on a red Test match ball. The Test Red colorway is precisely what the name says. There is a cleaner lifestyle variant, the Seam XVIII OG (also called the Pavilion), available at ₹6,999 for buyers who want the silhouette without the symbolic weight. But the Signature in Test Red is the one people traveled to Yashobhoomi for.

According to Abhishek Ganguly in a statement shared with Indian Retailer: "The overwhelming response on District tells us there is real consumer belief for an Indian high-performance brand with global ambition." Three product lines launched simultaneously: the Seam XVIII for lifestyle and performance crossover, the Cover Drive 18 Pro and X (cricket spikes at ₹13,999 each), and the Boom Rush, a multi-activity training shoe.

What You Are Actually Buying

The Seam XVIII Signature in Test Red retails at ₹9,230 (MRP ₹10,000, discounted at launch). The Pavilion sits at ₹6,999. For context: a Nike Pegasus at full retail on the Nike India app runs ₹10,995. One8 is entering that mid-premium tier, not trying to undercut Nike's entry-level training range. That positioning says something about where Agilitas sees the brand's long-term ceiling.

The Cover Drive cricket spikes at ₹13,999 deserve more attention than they are getting. Imported cricket boots from brands with proper sports engineering credentials regularly cost ₹20,000 and above through grey channels or official brand stores in India. Club cricketers across the country have been making do with either overpriced imports or poorly constructed domestic options. If the Cover Drive performs at that level, Agilitas has a real business in cricket footwear that extends far beyond the sneaker collector market.

Distribution, Demand, and What Comes Next

Right now, one8 sells through District by Zomato, Blinkit's lifestyle commerce platform. The pre-booking model is smart: it limits dead stock, creates scarcity around a product that is not globally limited, and generates demand signal before manufacturing commitments. Physical retail will follow in the cities where Premiere buyers came from: Delhi, Chennai, Goa, Jammu, Indore, Mysore, Panipat, and Lucknow. Watch the District app for general sale availability.

One creative signal worth watching: Masaba Gupta has signed on as one8's first Indian designer collaborator. Gupta's design language is bold, pattern-forward, and unapologetically Indian, which sits in interesting contrast to the cricket utility aesthetic at the brand's core. The collaboration has not been detailed yet, but the Whitaker Group model in the US, where a committed designer relationship with Jordan Brand produces some of the year's best collabs, is not an unfair comparison to hope for.

On r/SneakersIndia, the reaction has been engaged if divided. Skeptics wonder whether a celebrity-backed shoe can hold up technically against established sportswear engineering. Supporters point out that India has been waiting too long for a brand that does not treat the market as an afterthought. Both are reasonable positions. The Seam XVIII will answer the technical question once buyers have put real kilometers on it. That feedback, when it comes, will matter more than any launch event.

Should You Buy It?

The ₹6,999 Pavilion is a clean, honest buy. If you want to support a homegrown brand at a price that competes fairly against imports, this is it. The design is restrained, the pricing makes sense, and the Agilitas team has the manufacturing credibility to back the quality claims.

The ₹9,230 Signature is a different decision. You are buying the number as much as the shoe. When Kohli's career ends and his Test tally becomes a fixed historical record, this shoe will be a precise timestamp of where he stood in June 2026. If that narrative matters to you, the premium over the Pavilion is justified. If you want a good red sneaker without the story attached, you have better options at this price point.
