About
Puma introduced the Cell Endura in 1998 as the flagship model of its CELL line, a cushioning system built from thick TPU hexagons designed to stabilize the foot while maximizing energy return. Where most running cushioning of the era stayed hidden inside a midsole, Puma exposed the technology, setting bright green CELL bubbles into a white EVA midsole across the forefoot, arch, and heel so the tech was as much a design statement as a performance feature. The chunky upper mixed mesh, leather, and suede, finished with a rubber toe cap, distinctive eyelets, and running-inspired detailing that gave the Endura its bulky, unmistakably-90s profile. The shoe became Puma's top model within the wider CELL range during the technology's original run. Two decades later, in 2018, Puma brought the Cell Endura back to mark CELL technology's 20th anniversary, retaining the original tooling and the green cushioning bubbles while updating the upper materials, including patent leather versions. The reissue tapped into a broader wave of 90s technical-runner nostalgia and cemented the Endura's place as one of Puma's most recognizable retro silhouettes.
