The Nike Air Max 90, originally released in 1990 as the Air Max III, brought visible Air cushioning to the forefront of sneaker design. The shoe's original colourway — white, black, cool grey, and infrared — was deliberately chosen to exaggerate the thickness of the sole's Air unit, making the visible cushioning the focal point of the design. The upper combined Duromesh with synthetic felt and synthetic leather, creating a construction that was both durable and breathable. Nike renamed the model the Air Max 90 in 2000 to mark its 10th anniversary.
