About

The Nike Dunk debuted in 1985, originally called the 'College Color High' and designed by Peter Moore. It drew elements from the Nike Legend, Terminator, and Air Force 1, and was engineered as a performance basketball shoe. Its initial popularity was driven by university-coloured colourways created to represent the basketball teams of colleges like Syracuse, Kentucky, Iowa, and UNLV — giving rise to the 'Be True to Your School' campaign. Through the late 1990s and 2000s, Nike's SB Dunk sub-line transferred the silhouette into skateboarding culture after Nike signed skaters like Reese Forbes, Gino Ianucci, and Danny Supa. Supreme, Stüssy, and Futura collaborated on landmark colourways in 2003–2005, cementing its countercultural status. The Dunk Low experienced a mainstream global resurgence from 2020 onward. The Black/White 'Panda' Dunk Low became one of the best-selling sneakers of 2021–2022 globally, including in India where it is among the most searched Nike silhouettes on resale platforms.
