About
The New Balance 580 was first released exclusively in Japan in 1996, establishing a strong connection with Tokyo-based retailer Mita Sneakers that would define the model's heritage for decades. Originally a running shoe, the 580 earned recognition for its sleek silhouette, high-cut heel construction designed for comfort and stability, and a mixed upper of leather and suede. The model gained early cult status through a limited 2003 collaboration with Stussy and Real Mad Hectic, which featured 3-M reflective detailing and embroidery. New Balance and Mita celebrated 20 years of partnership in 2016 with a special anniversary edition. In recent years the 580 has undergone a full lifestyle revival, releasing in colorways such as Raincloud, Washed Burgundy, and Vintage Teal at a $130 retail price. The current construction pairs a premium suede, mesh, and leather upper with ABZORB cushioning and ROLLBAR stability technology in the midsole, sitting atop a rubber outsole. Collaborative editions from atmos Tokyo, Size?, Levi's, Limited Edt, and SBTG have further cemented the 580 as one of New Balance's most respected retro running silhouettes.
