About
The New Balance 990 series launched in 1982 and has been manufactured in the United States throughout its history. The 990 was among the first running shoes to cross the 100 USD retail threshold, positioning New Balance as a performance-first brand. The shoe developed a notable following outside the running community: according to New Balance officials quoted on the series 30th anniversary, the 990 was a favourite of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who wore the shoes regularly and helped shape their understated dad shoe aesthetic before that style became fashionable. The 990v6, released in 2022, retails at 200 USD and carries forward the series hallmarks: a pigskin suede and mesh upper, a dual-density ABZORB midsole, and a blown rubber outsole for cushioning and durability. Colourways including Grey/Navy have become go-to choices for those who favour a neutral, versatile shoe for running and everyday wear. In India, the 990v6 is available through authorised New Balance retailers, sitting at the premium end of the brands line-up alongside the more accessible 550 and 574 silhouettes.
