About
The Air Jordan XX, released in 2005, marks the twentieth anniversary of Michael Jordan's storied signature line. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the XX drew inspiration from Jordan's growing passion for motorcycle racing. Hatfield translated the low-cut silhouette and aesthetic of motorcycle footwear directly into a basketball shoe, resulting in a dramatic departure from the mid-cut and high-top profiles that had defined much of the Air Jordan series. The XX's most distinctive element is its centre strap placed over the lace closure, engineered to deliver a tighter, more supportive fit without sacrificing on-court mobility. This strap became one of the most discussed design features in the history of the Air Jordan line. The low-cut construction gave players a sleeker, more agile aesthetic on the court. The Air Jordan XX returned in retro form in both 2008 and 2015, demonstrating its lasting relevance to the Jordan Brand legacy. Its motorcycle-influenced design philosophy remains one of the most unusual and celebrated pivots in signature basketball shoe history.
