About
The Air Jordan XIX launched in 2004 as the first Jordan Brand performance basketball shoe released after Michael Jordan's third and final retirement. Its design drew inspiration from the black mamba snake, and the team collaborated with Material ConneXion, a global materials consultancy, to source an architectural-grade PVC pipe sleeving material that formed the distinctive woven outer layer visible across the upper. The XIX was engineered as a laceless shoe, with laces included purely for additional security but not required for proper fit. Jordan Brand described it as the lightest Air Jordans ever made at the time of its release. Original colorways included White/Flint Gray and Black/Red, and regional editions were produced specifically for the East, West, and Midwest markets, with additional Olympic special editions following. The AJ XIX gained broader cultural exposure through an appearance in the sitcom My Wife and Kids, extending the silhouette's reach beyond the basketball world. The CDP Bred edition later brought the model back to collectors.
