About
The Air Jordan XVII debuted in 2002 at a retail price of $200, arriving in four mid-top and three low-top colorways. The shoe came packaged with a multimedia CD-ROM containing an exclusive Air Jordan XVII song, making it one of the most distinctive product launches in Jordan Brand history. Its construction featured a reinforced mid-sole chassis engineered to provide a sturdy and stable foundation, a structural decision later replicated on the Air Jordan XXIII. Michael Jordan wore the XVII during his second retirement comeback with the Washington Wizards, and while playing for Washington he scored his 30,000th career NBA point against his former Chicago Bulls team. The shoe was re-released in 2008 and again in 2016, with the Copper colorway retro celebrating that career milestone with the Wizards. The availability of both mid-top and low-top versions gave the silhouette added versatility beyond the basketball court, and the 2016 retro in Black/Gym Red and White/Copper Coin colorways introduced the model to a new generation of Jordan collectors.
