About
The Air Jordan 2 was released in 1986, designed by Peter Moore and Bruce Kilgore. It was the first Air Jordan model manufactured in Italy — a deliberate decision by Nike to position the Jordan line as a premium product category, distinct from the original Air Jordan 1. The design drew aesthetic inspiration from the Nike Air Python, incorporating faux lizard skin texture and sweeping lines meant to evoke sports car styling. The Air Jordan 2 was also the first Jordan model to carry no Nike Swoosh on the upper — only the word Nike stitched on the heel counter — signalling the growing independence of the Jordan sub-brand. A full-length Air-Sole unit is housed within the polyurethane midsole, an advancement over the Jordan 1's partial Air unit. Michael Jordan wore the Air Jordan 2 for just 18 games during the 1985–86 NBA season due to a foot injury. Despite limited court exposure, the Jordan 2 has been revisited in retro form with its Varsity Red/White OG colourway — priced at $150 in 2014 retro iterations — remaining the benchmark original colourway.
