About
The adidas AE 1 is Anthony Edwards' first signature shoe. Edwards went first overall in the 2020 NBA draft and plays guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the shoe comes from adidas Basketball. adidas unveiled it on September 23, 2023. The first colourway, 'With Love' (IF1859), came in Acid Orange, Core Black and Acid Red and released on December 16, 2023 at $120. Patrick Zempolich is credited as the designer. Complex saw the shape as a modern evolution of Kobe Bryant's polarizing adidas signature models. You notice the side wall first. It is a molded TPU overlay full of open, ventilated holes, and it runs from the upper down onto the midsole. Inside is a knit upper with a split tongue over a neoprene bootie. The midsole pairs BOOST with Lightstrike for light cushioning and energy return, and a rubber herringbone outsole grips the court. It quickly became a best-seller, and adidas signed Edwards to a multiyear extension worth around $50 million. Later pairs such as the 'MX Charcoal' also listed at $120. The line has since moved on to the AE 2.
