About
The Nike Dunk High launched in 1985 under its original name, the College Color High, designed by Peter Moore with a clear mission: give university basketball programs a performance shoe in their team's exact colors. The design borrowed structural elements from the Nike Legend, Terminator, and Air Force 1, combining them into a versatile high-top that offered ankle support alongside a bold dual-tone colorway palette. The shoe debuted with exclusive university colorways — matching the team colors of programs including Michigan, Kentucky, and Syracuse — turning athletic footwear into an extension of collegiate identity. The Dunk High is offered in low-, mid-, and high-top styles, with the high-top remaining the closest to the original basketball silhouette. The shoe's cultural trajectory shifted sharply in the early 2000s when skateboarding communities adopted it for its board feel and durable leather construction. Nike responded by developing the SB Dunk line, which transformed the silhouette into a collector's item through limited releases and artist collaborations. From Wu-Tang Clan editions to luxury fashion partnerships, the Dunk High has served as one of Nike's most enduring canvases. Decades after its debut as a college basketball shoe, it retains global streetwear relevance and consistent resale demand.
