About
The New Balance 993 arrived in 2008 as the final model in the brand's 99X series, following the 991 and 992 earlier in the decade. Rather than introduce a wholly new design, New Balance combined elements of both predecessors into one streamlined shoe, carrying over the duotone ABZORB cushioning that defined the series while simplifying the upper into a cleaner, more casual construction. Like the rest of the 99X line, the 993 has long been part of New Balance's Made in USA range, built using a domestic value of 70 percent or more at the brand's American factories. The shoe's understated, chunky silhouette and dependable comfort quickly made it a staple far beyond performance running, amassing a loyal fanbase that reportedly included Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who wore the 993 for years. New Balance continues to reissue the model in both classic greys and new colorways through its Made in USA line, including collaborations and city-inspired packs, cementing the 993 as one of the most consistent entries in the brand's catalog nearly two decades after it first released.
