The New Balance 57/40 is a lifestyle sneaker New Balance introduced globally on January 9, 2021, as a reinterpretation of the brand's classic 574 silhouette. According to New Balance's official launch announcement, the design blends an 80s-meets-90s aesthetic while staying rooted in the 574's three-decade design lineage, which the brand calls one of its most revered and iconic silhouettes. The 57/40 features an enlarged N logo and a reimagined CR device for color-blocking, plus a dual midsole construction: a wider, wavy lower midsole drawing on 90s heritage details paired with a traditional 574-style upper midsole. Its enlarged outsole nods to the 574's off-road, trail-running heritage. The upper mixes leather, suede, and mesh, with the debut collection built around rainbow-colored accents set against neutral base colorways. Additional colorways followed throughout 2021, and the 57/40 has since appeared in collaborations covered by sneaker press, including BAPE and Bricks & Wood. It launched at a suggested retail price of $120 for both men's and women's versions.
