About
The ASICS GEL-1130 was released in 2008 as the ninth model in the brand's GEL-1000 series, a line of entry-level stability running shoes sold at an accessible price. It was positioned as a more affordable alternative to premium ASICS runners like the GEL-Kayano 14 and GT-2130, and its design drew direct inspiration from the GEL-Kayano 14. The GEL-1000 line continued until the GEL-1170 in 2011, after which it was succeeded by the GT-1000 series in 2012. Like its siblings, the 1130 paired ASICS' signature rearfoot GEL cushioning with a supportive, layered mesh-and-synthetic upper built for everyday mileage. Largely forgotten after its running days, the silhouette was revived in 2021 as Y2K fashion and "dad-core" aesthetics brought late-2000s technical runners back into style. Since then it has become a collaboration favourite, appearing in projects with Kiko Kostadinov, Gallery Dept. and Kith, including Kith's "Vintage Tech" pack and a Marvel-themed Magneto colourway. Its blend of retro tech detailing and genuine GEL comfort has made it a modern streetwear staple.
