About
The Air Jordan XX2 (Air Jordan 22) is Michael Jordan's twenty-second signature basketball shoe, released by Jordan Brand on February 17, 2007, Jordan's 44th birthday. Designed by D'Wayne Edwards, who also created the preceding Air Jordan XX1, the silhouette drew its design language from the F-22 Raptor stealth fighter jet, translating the aircraft's sharp aerodynamic lines and radar-evading profile into zig-zag stitching and a reflective 3M camouflage pattern across the upper. The shoe carried over Independent Podular Suspension from the XX1, giving wearers a choice between double-stacked Zoom Air or Encapsulated Air cushioning pods, and introduced Jordan Brand's first titanium shank plate along with titanium-coated eyelets and a variable-speed lacing system. Built with a full-grain leather upper and translucent rubber outsole, it retailed at $175, with a special Basketball Leather edition priced at $179.99. Fifteen original colorways released, including player-exclusive editions for Carmelo Anthony, Rip Hamilton, Ray Allen, Joe Johnson, and Josh Howard, plus All-Star East and West versions. Jordan himself, already retired from the NBA, never played in the shoe, though several All-Stars wore it during the 2007 All-Star Game.
