The Air Jordan X was released in 1994, coinciding with Michael Jordan's first retirement from professional basketball. It was the first Air Jordan to feature a lightweight Phylon midsole, marking a notable advancement in performance construction within the line. The shoe was released in different colorways representing US cities. One of its most distinctive design elements is the outsole, which features all of Michael Jordan's accomplishments up to his first retirement printed on it — making it both a performance basketball shoe and a commemorative piece. The Air Jordan X was subsequently re-released in 2005, 2008, 2012–2016, and 2018, demonstrating its enduring appeal across different eras of sneaker culture.
