About
The Adidas Ozweego is a chunky lifestyle sneaker with roots as a performance running shoe, first released in 1996. Built with adiPRENE EVA midsole cushioning and a wide platform outsole measuring over 121mm at the forefoot, the original design prioritized shock absorption and support for serious runners. The silhouette remained relatively obscure for years before Raf Simons redesigned it in 2013 as a limited fashion collaboration, elevating the Ozweego into collector circles and cementing its status as a design object beyond pure function. The mainstream revival arrived in Spring 2019 when Adidas Originals relaunched the Ozweego as a lifestyle shoe for a new generation. Its chunky, retro-futuristic aesthetic landed at the height of the dad shoe trend and found immediate traction on the street. The relaunch featured leather and mesh uppers with suede overlays while retaining the adiPRENE cushioning of the original. Notable collaborations since 2019 have included partnerships with Pusha T and Arsenal FC. Today the Ozweego sits alongside the Samba and Gazelle as one of Adidas Originals' most recognisable retro-runner silhouettes.
