Nike Caitlin 1 "Midnight Fever": Release, Price and the India Import Maths

Caitlin Clark's first signature shoe got its second colourway two weeks after the first, and the pink "Midnight Fever" landed on 14 October at $140. Here is why it beats Racer Blue, and why the same pair costs about ₹19,900 by the time it lands in India.

Two weeks. That is how long the first Nike Caitlin 1 colourway had the shelf to itself before the second one landed. The "Racer Blue" pair, style code IH7423-400, went live on 1 October 2026 at $140, and on 14 October the pink "Midnight Fever" (IH7423-600) followed at the same price. Two drops of a debut signature shoe inside a fortnight is not how Nike usually paces things. It tells you how hard the brand is leaning on Caitlin Clark.

For Indian buyers there is a catch that no launch graphic mentions. Neither colourway had an India listing that we could find by the end of October, and the import maths on a $140 basketball shoe is uglier than most people expect. So here is what the shoe actually is, why the pink pair is the one to want, and what it costs to land one in Mumbai or Bengaluru.

Caitlin Clark's first signature shoe, built around Opticast

Start with the upper, because that is the story. Nike calls it Opticast. In House of Heat's launch breakdown it is cast polyurethane nodes set at different heights, there to cut drag. Fine. What matters more is what the nodes say. Lateral side: "CC". Medial side: "22", her Indiana Fever number.

Underneath, it is a Cushlon midsole with an articulated Air Zoom Turbo unit in the forefoot, a midfoot shank and radial traction. The outsole carries small messages, including "Shoot More Threes", which is about as on-brand as a shoe can get for a guard whose whole reputation was built from 30 feet out. Clark's line in Nike's release, quoted by House of Heat: "Having my own shoe has been a dream for as long as I can remember."

First take. The cushioning is safe, and good. Cushlon with forefoot Zoom Turbo has been under plenty of Nike hoops shoes, so nobody is beta-testing a new foam on a debut signature model. Smart. Nike put all its risk into the upper instead, which is where a first shoe should carry its personality anyway.

Racer Blue vs Midnight Fever: which colourway to chase

The Racer Blue pair is the archival one. Sneaker Bar Detroit and Sole Retriever both list IH7423-400 at $140 with a 1 October date: a deep royal blue upper and midsole, chrome Swoosh, a metallic green tongue logo and a translucent outsole. It is the colour Clark wore through the build-up, and if you want the first pair of her first shoe, this is it.

Midnight Fever is the better looker. Per Just Fresh Kicks, the Opticast upper fades from pale pink at the toe to hot pink at the heel over a mesh base. The Swoosh is layered black, pink and burgundy. Blue "CC" on the tongue. Pink rubber below. Sole Retriever lists the full colourway as Hot Punch/Neo Pink-Black-Laser Crimson-Racer Blue, unisex sizing, $140. Just Fresh Kicks ties the colourway to her 22nd WNBA game, when she became the first rookie in league history to record a triple-double.

We would buy the pink. On the flat blue pair the nodes blur into one colour from a few feet away; the gradient picks them out, and on feet it is not close. Keep Racer Blue for the shelf if you collect firsts. Wear Midnight Fever.

What the Caitlin 1 costs to import into India

No Nike India listing for the Caitlin 1 had turned up in our searches by the end of October, and nike.in blocks automated checks, so treat any Indian launch as unconfirmed. If you want a pair now, you are importing.

The maths, using the open.er-api rate of ₹95.32 to the dollar, last updated 14 October 2026. The $140 retail works out to roughly ₹13,345 before shipping. Footwear coming into India carries 20 percent basic customs duty, an agriculture cess worth 4 percent of value, a 2.4 percent social welfare surcharge and 18 percent IGST on top of all of it, a total of 49.15 percent per the eximpe duty breakdown for HS 64039120 (rates as at 13 May 2026). Multiply ₹13,345 by 1.4915 and the pair lands at about ₹19,900, before freight and any forwarder's fee.

So a $140 shoe becomes a ₹20,000-plus shoe by the time it reaches your door. That is the number to hold in your head whenever someone on Instagram quotes you a "retail" price.

Resale: what the numbers do and do not say

We could not pull a reliable StockX market for either pair. Racer Blue had been out for two weeks when Midnight Fever dropped on 14 October, so any figure from that window is a thin, early read. On the morning of the release, Sole Retriever's live-price field for Midnight Fever showed $203, with no size attached. Treat that as a launch-day ask, not a settled price. HITC reported on 8 October that the first Caitlin 1 sold out on Nike's site and major retailers within minutes, which explains why early asks sit above retail.

Second take, and this one is firm. Do not pay a premium on top of import duty for this shoe. Nike has already shown at least five more colourways in the pipeline, including the glow-in-the-dark "Halloween" (JA4290-001), which landed on 23 October, and a "Racer Blue Pink" (JF3474-400) reported by House of Heat. A signature line that releases this often does not stay scarce for long.

Sizing for Indian buyers and how to wear it

Both pairs are listed as unisex, which on Nike means men's US sizing. If you wear women's sizes, go down 1.5 from your usual US women's number. Indian buyers who think in UK sizes can take one off the US men's size, so a UK 8 is a US 9. Basketball shoes with a forefoot Zoom unit tend to feel snug in the first few wears, so if you sit between sizes, take the larger one.

On court, it is built for guards who change direction a lot. Off court, the pink pair works better than you would think with washed black denim or grey track pants and a plain white tee. Let the gradient be the only loud thing in the fit.

Two colourways in two weeks, a sell-out on day one and a pipeline that runs into 2027. The Caitlin 1 is not a one-off hype moment. It is Nike building a women's signature line it plans to keep feeding. For Indian buyers the smart move is patience: let the second and third waves come, and wait for a sensible price. Before her own shoe, Clark spent a season in Kobe PEs. We covered that pair in our Caitlin Clark Kobe 5 Protro "Coconut Milk" story, and it is worth reading next to this one to see how far her Nike story has moved in a year.
