Union x Nike Dunk Low "Natural Selection": The Fold-Down Heel Dunk Lands October 30

Union's Natural Selection pack is the first Dunk Low in years with a different build: unlined suede and a heel that folds flat so you can step straight in. Three pairs, $135 each, October 30. Here is what each one costs once it lands in India.

On October 30, 2026, Union drops a Nike Dunk Low you are meant to step on. Not by accident, not because the heel got crushed in a gym bag, but by design: the "Natural Selection" pack ships with a heel that folds flat so the shoe wears as a slip-on, then stands back up when you want laces. Three suede colourways, $135 each, and the first structural change to the Dunk that a collaborator has pulled off in years.

That matters because the Dunk conversation in India has been stuck on colourways since 2021. Panda, Grey Fog, another university pair. Union's pitch is different. Chris Gibbs, who owns the Los Angeles store, put it plainly in the trailer: "We made a sophisticated capsule with Nike in a time when people are still clamoring for hype." Whether you buy that line or not, the shoe underneath it is the most interesting Dunk of this autumn.

What Union Changed on the Dunk

Two things, and both are material. First, the upper is unlined suede. Per Sneaker Bar Detroit's report, "Unlined suede removes some of the structure from the upper without changing the Dunk's recognizable shape." Second, the heel: "a heel you can fold down and wear like a slip-on." Modern Notoriety describes the same build as "unstructured, unlined suede construction and a tonal finish." Union logos sit on the tongue and on that collapsible heel, and the lace panels carry a thick, visible stitch that reads as a 1990s workwear detail rather than a sneaker one.

Darwin gave the pack its name. Union's framing, again via Sneaker Bar Detroit, connects "evolving personal taste with the clothes and sneakers people keep wearing over the years." Fair enough. The apparel makes the same argument in cotton: heavyweight hoodies, sweatpants, tees, and an M-65 jacket reworked with 1990s styling. A wardrobe capsule with a shoe inside it. Not a shoe with a hoodie bolted on.

Three Colourways, Three Style Codes

Union calls them Eclipse, Fatigue and Hide. Nike's colour descriptors, as ever, are duller. Here they are per Sole Retriever and Sneaker Bar Detroit, which agree on every code:

  • Eclipse, IF7380-001, Off Noir/University Gold-Dark Ash. Black suede, the safest pair.
  • Fatigue, IF7380-200, Bamboo/University Gold-Light Cream. Olive. The one Sneaker Bar Detroit says also hits SNKRS in the US on November 6.
  • Hide, IX2929-200, Palomino/University Gold-Light Cream. Brown, with a leopard pattern etched into the suede so faintly you only catch it in daylight.

Price? $135 on Sole Retriever and Modern Notoriety. Sneaker Bar Detroit's product listings say $130, and as of October 28 nobody had squared the two, so budget for the higher number. Release is October 30 through Union's website and stores. Union Tokyo is running a raffle on its webstore for the Osaka and Tokyo launch. SNKRS does not appear in Sole Retriever's write-up at all.

Resale is already live before the shoe is. Sole Retriever's listing page showed an ask of $463 for Eclipse and $238 for Fatigue on October 27. Those are pre-release asks, not sales, and should be read as what resellers hope for rather than what anyone has paid. There is no settled market yet. Anyone quoting you a premium this week is pricing your impatience.

Landing a Pair in India

No Indian retailer appears in any of the release info, and Union-only drops historically never route here. So the honest route is import, and here is what that costs at today's numbers.

At the open.er-api.com rate of ₹95.20 per dollar on October 28, 2026, $135 is ₹12,852 before shipping. Footwear into India under HSN 6403 then stacks 20% basic customs duty, an agriculture cess worth 4% of CIF, a 10% social welfare surcharge on those two, and 18% IGST on the lot, per the ICEGATE-based calculator at EximPe (rates as at May 13, 2026). That is 49.15% in total, so a ₹12,852 pair lands at roughly ₹19,200 before the courier's handling fee and before any reseller margin. If you are buying through a proxy at resale, run the same 1.49 multiplier on their price and brace yourself.

For scale, a general-release Dunk Low Retro in Fir and British Tan sits at ₹12,999 on our shelf right now, and an SB Dunk Low in black, white and gum at ₹11,500. The Union pair at retail-plus-duty is a ₹6,000 to ₹8,000 step up over those, before the hype tax. That is not nothing, but for a shoe with a genuinely new build it is a smaller gap than most collabs ask for.

Sizing note: unlined suede stretches. If you are between sizes on a regular Dunk, go down, not up. The fold-down heel also means the collar has less structure holding your foot, so a snug fit matters more than usual.

Is the Hype Real?

Yes, and for once it is the shoe's fault rather than the box's. Union has done Dunk Lows with Nike before, and those were colour stories. These are construction stories, and construction ages better. Five years from now the fold-down heel will still be a talking point; a colourway rarely is.

Which pair: Hide. The leopard etch gives it a second read that Eclipse does not have, and olive Dunks have been done to death. Eclipse is the one to buy if you only want one black Dunk that is not a Panda, and plenty of Delhi wardrobes could use exactly that.

Wear them stepped on. That is the point. Wide cargo trousers, or raw denim cut straight and cuffed high so the heel shows. Mumbai in October is still hot enough that slip-on mode is the sane one.

Union made a Dunk that changes shape. In a year of endless Dunk colourways, that is the only one worth queueing for. If the import maths puts you off, our Nike stock has Dunks at retail with no customs envelope attached.
