About
The Reebok Workout Plus is a low-top leather training shoe built with a full-grain leather upper, perforated toe vamp for breathability, and a signature H-strap overlay across the side panel for lockdown support. Its gum rubber outsole was originally engineered to grip wooden gym floors while doubling as a heritage style accent. Introduced during Reebok's 1980s expansion from aerobics into broader fitness and court footwear, the Workout family helped the brand diversify beyond its Freestyle aerobic shoe. Beyond the gym, the Workout Plus took on a second life in street culture: according to Reebok global product manager James Hardaway, the silhouette became especially popular in the American South, particularly New Orleans, where local youth nicknamed it Soldier. The New Orleans hip-hop group the Hot Boys, an early Cash Money Records collective featuring a young Lil Wayne and Juvenile, referenced the shoe in their music, cementing its status as a cult streetwear staple.
