About
The Reebok Instapump Fury arrived in 1994 as one of the most radical silhouettes in sneaker history — a shoe that eliminated the lace entirely. Designed by Steven Smith, the Fury used Reebok's Pump technology, originally developed for basketball, and integrated it into a running-inspired shell. A button on the heel inflates an internal bladder that wraps the midfoot, customising the fit in seconds. The original colorway — Black with Citron and Red — was deliberately aggressive, referencing the provocative aesthetic of early 1990s techno and rave culture. Smith's design references aerospace engineering in the exoskeleton-like frame and the exposed structural ribs running along the lateral side. The 20th anniversary in 2014 saw over 27 collaboration releases in a single year, with partners including Mita, Highs and Lows, and BAPE, cementing the Fury's status as a cult canvas. Today the silhouette remains in continuous production, regularly updated with new materials and collaborative partners while keeping the no-lace DNA intact.
