About

The New Balance 650 is a basketball high-top first released in 1989, the taller counterpart to the 550 with the same late-80s court styling. It was one of the go-to shoes for Lakers star James Worthy during his 1980s NBA seasons. Teddy Santis brought it back. The founder of Aimé Leon Dore, who is also creative director of New Balance Made in USA, found the 550 and 650 shapes in an old Japanese catalogue. He remastered the shoe as the 650R. The R stands for remastered. His Aimé Leon Dore pairs had co-branded tongue tags and pre-yellowed midsoles, and they released on April 20, 2022 at $165 before reaching New Balance's own site on May 5. A general release followed. The all-white BB650RWW landed on November 10, 2022 at $140, in leather with perforated overlays and the signature puff-and-stitch collar on a rubber outsole. Like the 550, it has perforated side walls, heel branding and the model number near the toe box. A high foam collar and an Ortholite insole take care of comfort.
