About
The Converse Run Star Hike debuted in January 2019 as a collaboration between British designer JW Anderson and Converse, first shown at London Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2019 before releasing exclusively via the JW Anderson web store on January 16, 2019. JW Anderson described the concept as pairing the sole of a Run Star with the classic Chuck Taylor upper to emphasize contrasting proportions — a signature of his design aesthetic. The shoe retains the traditional canvas Chuck Taylor upper, complete with the star ankle patch, rubber toe cap, and winged tongue stitching, while sitting atop a dramatically chunky cushioned EVA midsole with a jagged colour-blocked outsole that delivers hiking-tread grip. A pull tab at the rear and SmartFoam sock liner complete the build. Converse adopted the Run Star Hike into its permanent seasonal lineup starting January 2020, releasing it in high-top and low-top versions across multiple colorways. Premium material iterations, including snakeskin uppers with a centre-zip fastening, followed in 2021, cementing the model as a long-term lifestyle platform silhouette.
