The adidas Taekwondo is a minimal slip-on rooted in the history of martial arts footwear. Sources differ on its exact origin: retailer Sneakersnstuff dates the model to the 1990s, while Sneaker Freaker places its original release in the early 2000s for the sport it was named after, when low-profile sneakers were all the rage and the performance shoe was adopted for casual wear. The design features a narrow, foot-hugging upper with an elasticated vamp for a snug fit, a lace shroud with retro adidas branding and 3-Stripes, and a super low-profile gum rubber outsole that lets the forefoot and heel flex. adidas Originals relaunched the shoe on 7 February 2019 as a women's exclusive at $90, in off-white and black canvas with gold-foil TAEKWONDO branding on the heel. The silhouette went on to inform Y-3 collaborations before returning to the main adidas line in various forms, and a June 2024 version arrived in OG tones with a full premium leather upper, a contrast gum outsole and a slightly heightened midsole.
