Ask "Nike or Adidas?" on any Indian college campus and you get an argument, not an answer. So we went and got numbers. In the first week of October 2026 we pulled the listed price of every adult Nike and Adidas shoe on eight Indian retailers, 1,329 pairs in all. The result is more interesting than "Nike costs more".
Is Nike or Adidas More Expensive in India?
Overall, Nike. The typical Nike pair in our data is listed at ₹8,995. The typical Adidas pair is ₹5,999. That is a ₹2,996 gap in the middle of the market, and it shows up again at the cheap end: 43% of Adidas listings cost under ₹5,000, against 27% of Nike's.
| Nike | Adidas | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical (median) price | ₹8,995 | ₹5,999 |
| Pairs under ₹5,000 | 27% | 43% |
| Typical price at sneaker stores | ₹9,995 | ₹12,999 |
| Typical price on marketplaces | ₹6,331 | ₹3,599 |
| Listings priced | 770 | 559 |
How we priced it: SNKRS CART tracks listed prices on Ajio, Myntra, Tata CLiQ, Tata CLiQ Luxury, Superkicks, VegNonVeg, Limited Edt and Foot Locker India. These figures use adult footwear listed at ₹1,000 or more, collected on 7 and 8 October 2026. Kids' sizes and clothing are left out. Sneaker stores means Superkicks, VegNonVeg, Limited Edt and Foot Locker; marketplaces means the other four.
Why Adidas Costs More at Sneaker Stores
Here is the twist. At the four sneaker stores, the typical Adidas pair is ₹12,999 and the typical Nike pair is ₹9,995. There, Adidas is the pricier brand by ₹3,004.
The two brands sell different shoes through different doors. On the marketplaces, the biggest group of Adidas listings is running shoes, 38% of them, which is why the Adidas median there is just ₹3,599. At the sneaker stores, a quarter of all Adidas listings are Sambas, and those sell at full price. Nike's sneaker-store shelf leans on the Air Force 1 (19% of listings), Air Max (15%) and Dunk (9%), which come in far more general-release colourways.
So if a friend says Adidas is cheap, they shop on Myntra. If they say Adidas is expensive, they shop at Superkicks. Both are right.
Nike vs Adidas: Which Is Better?
Price is only half the question. Here is how the two compare on what actually decides a purchase.
Comfort: a draw
Nike's React and ZoomX foams are built for performance, and ZoomX is the cushioning in its road-racing shoes. Adidas Boost made its name as soft, springy everyday cushioning, and Cloudfoam does a similar job on budget Adidas pairs. Both brands have comfortable options at every price. Fit matters more than foam, so try the size before you commit.
Style range: Nike
Nike has more icons in rotation: Air Force 1, Dunk, Air Max, and the Jordan line under the same roof. Adidas answers with the Samba, Gazelle, Campus, Superstar and Stan Smith. Nike's range is deeper. Adidas's best-sellers are more focused, and right now the Samba carries the brand.
Resale: Nike
If you buy with resale in mind, Nike wins, mostly because of Jordan and limited Dunks. Adidas resale is narrower and leans on collaborations, while general-release Sambas and Superstars rarely trade above retail. Our India resale guide covers what actually holds value.
Availability: a draw
Both brands sell through their own apps and stores and through the same eight retailers in the table above. For limited releases, Nike uses the SNKRS app and Adidas runs its drops through its own app and launch raffles. Both are a lottery on launch day.
Sustainability: Adidas, narrowly
Adidas has shipped more visible sustainable products, from its Parley ocean-plastic shoes to recycled-material lines. Nike runs its own sustainability programme and the Space Hippie line. Both still sell far more conventional shoes than sustainable ones.
